Day 15: Diane Arbus
A few month ago there was an exhibition at Jeu de Paume where I saw the work of Diane Arbus, for the first time. It was was one of those occasions when you have a cultural experience that overwhelms you in the most positive sense, and you just can’t help but praise god for it. Arbus’s photographs all capture just a split second of her subject’s life, most often not even a significant one. And this is where it gets interesting. Her ability to depict characters, and human fate marks her photos with invisible question marks, leaving you to want to know more about them. It is just haunting.
